Nokia Lumia 2520 to Be Followed by 8-inch 2020
Shortly after the launch of its first Windows RT tablet, rumors surfaced that Nokia would produce a model with an 8-inch diagonal screen. Developed under the code name “Illusionist,” the future product will apparently be a flagship model, to be released next year at CES 2014 in January or at MWC 2014 in February.
At 8 inches, Illusionist is slated to be smaller than the current Lumia 2520 Windows RT tablet. According to DigiTimes, the upcoming tablet will be called the Lumia 2020 and will target the same market sector as the Lumia 2520. Sources quoted by IntoMobile state that the Lumia 2020 tablet will be as powerful as the current 2520 model, providing a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 2 GB of RAM, and a full HD IPS display at 1080 resolution.
The small and medium tablet market is extremely attractive for manufacturers, and Nokia is not the only company trying to find its way with Windows-based models. Acer, Toshiba and Lenovo have already introduced products based on Windows 8.1 rather than the reduced version of the ARM hardware platform. Nokia’s acquisition by Microsoft, which has already received shareholder approval, has apparently not altered its product development program to this point, even while Microsoft is said to be working on a 7.5” screen version of its Surface tablet.
