Galaxy Gear Smartwatch Photos Show the Prototype, Not the Finished Product
Smartwatches are all the rage this year, and Samsung is set to unveil their entry into the Smartwatch market in a few days on September 4th. A few days ago images appeared online of the Galaxy Gear, and the internet lost its mind when they saw how big and bulky the Galaxy Gear was. Well, have no fear as it’s been confirmed that the watch folks will see in two days is going to look quite a bit different… we think.
As you can see from the image below, the images of the Galaxy Gear smartwatch show a device that’s anything but svelte. As VentureBeat reported, it’s just a prototype that was sent out to developers, and not the finished product. This is a common practice to prevent products from leaking ahead of time, and isn’t anything we haven’t seen before. While the photos don’t show the final version of the smartwatch, there are a few things you can bank on when it’s finally unveiled to the world.
You can expect the Galaxy Gear smartwatch to have a camera, microphone, and speakers along with Bluetooth LE and NFC. Nothing has been locked down on the processor, but it’s expected to be dual-core. As for the screen, you’ll likely get a bright OLED display that measures around 2.5-inches or 3-inches diagonally including the case. The battery life was rumored to be around 10 hours, and it looks like that’s going to be true with heavy usage. With normal usage you can expect around 24 hours.
It’s fun to speculate what we’ll see on September 4th, and fans of Samsung can rest assured that they’ll bring something fancy to the table. It remains to be seen just how closely you’ll have to be tethered to your smartphone to get full usage out of the Galaxy Gear or how many devices it will work with. We’ll find out soon, when Samsung releases the Galaxy Gear smartwatch on Wednesday.
